Smoking

Contrary to what you might believe, smoking DOESN’T relax you, calm your nerves or chill you out. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. It actually stimulates your nervous system. You get a very short, two-minute burst of dopamine (the chemical in your brain that gives you that ‘feel good’ factor) then 48 hours of agitation – to which you keep going back for more. It’s a vicious circle with no end.

There are no upsides to smoking, only downsides. It’s outrageously expensive, it doesn’t satisfy your thirst or your hunger, it makes your clothes and fingers smell and the stench of second-hand smoke is generally regarded as being quite repulsive.

That notwithstanding, smoking kills around 100,000 people in the UK every year through a number of awful diseases including various forms of cancers, heart disease, chronic bronchitis, emphysema and pneumonia.

If you’ve had enough of smoking ruling your life, it’s time to take positive action and quit. The good news is that after one, two-hour session with me at Behavioural Freedom using a range of techniques combining Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Clinical Hypnotherapy I will have given you the best possible opportunity to free you from the clutches of cigarettes.

There is scientific evidence to prove that hypnotherapy is the most successful and effective method of stopping smoking. Meta-analysis of over 600 studies of around 72,000 people published in the Journal of Applied Psychology stated that hypnosis was well over twice as effective as the closest ‘cure’ –

  • Hypnotherapy – >60%
  • Acupuncture – up to 25%
  • Nicotine patches (with side effects) – up to 13%
  • Nicotine gum (with side effects) – up to 11%
  • Willpower alone – 5%

In New Scientist (Vol. 136 Issue 1845, 31 October 1992, p.6) it states that ‘hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking, according to the largest ever scientific comparison of ways of breaking the habit. Willpower, it turns out, counts for very little.’

The facts speak for themselves.

CBT positively changes your fundamental thought processes and behaviours while hypnosis takes you into a more acute state of suggestibility where I can connect with your subconscious and show you how to think, act and react in new ways. I won’t simply stop you from smoking, I will give you the positive mental strength, the will and the determination to never go back.

Behavioural Freedom gives you –

  • The motivation and confidence to stop smoking forever
  • The ability to change what cigarettes mean to you and the connections they have
  • A way to cleanse your mind from the hold smoking has over you
  • The positive mental strength to prevent a relapse
