Working from home and looking after your mental health

working from home and anxiety

Working from home is currently the norm for most of us. Life has changed so much over the past year and the huge changes brought about in our lifestyles by the Covid 19 pandemic mean that we have all had to adjust to different ways of living and working.

Among the biggest changes is that many of us are working from home either full time or on some sort of flexi system. There are definite benefits to working from home that we have embraced – no more stressful commute, autonomy over our working pattern and more time with the family. But now that we have been working this way for over a year, it seems that working from home can have its own type of stress and can make us feel anxious about job security and the future.

The website Every Mind Matters has posted a very helpful article 7 simple tips to tackle working from home which can help you while working at home, to feel more productive and take care of your mental health in these difficult times.

1. Set and stick to a routine

2. Make a dedicated workspace

3. Give yourself a break

4. Stay connected

5. Set boundaries

6. Think longer term

7. Be kind to yourself

Working from  home and Anxiety

At Behavioural Freedom, I use a skills-based model for treating anxiety. During our sessions, I will teach you relaxation techniques and helpful ways in which you can fundamentally and positively change the way you behave, think and act. It’s also important to note here that you can’t be stressed or suffer from anxiety when you are in a relaxed state. The skills you’ll learn during your time with me will be vital to both your on-going treatment and perhaps more so as you leave my care.

A combination of Applied Relaxation and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is considered by the British Medical Journal to be one of the most effective therapies to alleviate anxiety and put you on a path to having a positive mind-set and being able to live life to the fullest, free of worries. By combining both and adding in the element of hypnosis, I believe this is the most effective, pragmatic and relevant approach to the treatment of anxiety.

Online hypnotherapy for post pandemic anxiety?

Traditional methods for the treatment of anxiety can be useful if you are suffering from post pandemic anxiety and working from home. Online hypnotherapy is a safe and convenient alternative to face to face sessions. It is just as effective as working together in the clinic and follows the same structured approach. The initial online consultation via Zoom, provides a safe and secure connection and gives us the opportunity to trial the process before committing to future sessions. You’ll just need a quiet, comfortable and private place at home or work to talk and relax without the need to spend time and money travelling and parking!
